The Asia Group’s Australia Practice is seeking a highly motivated individual to support client service and business development at the Associate level. This role will involve close coordination with The Australia Practice’s Washington-based team by carrying out in-depth research tasks, developing actionable insights, producing client-ready updates and research memoranda, and providing logistical support in advance of and during travel to Australia by senior members of the practice.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the Australian political system, as well as a strong grasp of business fundamentals and Australia’s regulatory environment, and the engagement of Australian enterprises in foreign markets across the Indo-Pacific. The candidate will possess strong communication abilities and will be able to provide concise and nuanced briefings and written product to TAG clients and leadership. Priority will be given to those applicants with demonstrated business, government, and/or research experience focused on or within Australia or Australian multinationals.
Responsibilities Include:
- Monitoring local media for important developments related to client equities and opportunities for business development;
- Producing written updates and assessments on matters which impact key client priorities, including political, economic, and regulatory developments;
- Supporting planning and implementation of client engagements, both in person and remotely; and
- Providing planning support to senior members of the Australia Practice ahead of travel to Australia and remotely assisting while travel is taking place.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Self-starter with the ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with regular demands extending to both critical client matters and simple administrative tasks;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian politics and economics and U.S. relations with Asia, preferably with at least two years of work experience in a client-facing industry, research institute, government, business, or government relations consultancy;
- Outstanding research, writing, and analytical skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with clients;
- Positive and professional attitude; eager for professional development and open to learning;
- Advanced degree (MA/MBA/JD) or equivalent practical work experience related to Australia or Australian enterprise;
- Attention to detail, and strong organization skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint; and
- Public or private sector exposure to energy, finance, or defense is not required but would be a significant asset.
Working Policy and Benefits:
Employees will work in a mostly in-person environment, with the option to report remotely on Fridays as business allows. TAG provides competitive health benefits and paid time off, with training opportunities available for its employees.
