David Dennis


David Dennis is an Associate at The Asia Group, where he works with the Southeast Asia practice. He supports clients navigating political, economic, and regulatory developments across a broad range of sectors, including energy, manufacturing and ICT.

Prior to joining The Asia Group, David was a Presidential Management Fellow with the International Trade Administration’s Office of Energy and Environmental Industries.  In this capacity, he worked with U.S industry to shape international trade and investment policies related to climate change, air pollution & controls, smart grid technologies, and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

During his graduate studies,  David worked as a Graduate Fellow with the Southeast Asia Practice at McLarty Associates and as a researcher in the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He previously served as an AmeriCorps volunteer at White Sands National Park and spent time as Youth Conservation Corps crew leader in New York City.

David has spent several years working and studying in Indonesia, including time as a participant on the U.S. Department of State’s Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program and the Critical Language Scholarship Program. He is a recipient of the David L. Boren Graduate Fellowship and the Freeport-McMoRan Fellowship for Southeast Asia Studies.

David holds an MA in International Economics and Southeast Asia Studies from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University and holds a BA in Religion from Middlebury College. David is proficient in Indonesian and conversational in Mandarin and Portuguese.
