Jon Foissotte is an Associate at The Asia Group focusing on the firm’s Japan portfolio. He provides strategic support and analysis drawing on his expertise in Japanese domestic politics and foreign policy, underlying regional trends in trade and investment cooperation, and East Asian regional security dynamics. Jon tracks and analyzes recent developments across Japan’s political and regulatory landscapes, supporting clients operating in sectors including consumer electronics, health and pharmaceuticals, tourism, and themed entertainment.
Previously, Jon worked in the Japanese National Diet’s House of Representatives in Tokyo, where he provided logistical support for conferences concerning key contemporary issue areas in defense and trade. During his time at the Diet, Jon developed a hands-on perspective on the role of Japanese political representatives in the legislative process and foreign policy decision-making, as well as insight into the personal interactions that undergird Japanese diplomacy.
Jon has also worked at the Japan Information Center of the Consulate General of Japan in Chicago, where he conducted research on U.S.-Japan relations in the Midwest and compiled databases important to the Center’s diplomatic outreach efforts. While at the Consulate, Jon played an active role in strengthening the ties between the Center and other regional organizations.
Jon holds a Master of Arts in Japan Studies from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Japanese Studies. Jon is proficient in Japanese.
