AnalystEleanor Shiori Hughes is an Analyst at The Asia Group where she supports the firm’s Defense & Aerospace practice by researching industry developments and complex geopolitical dynamics unfolding across the Indo-Pacific region.
Before joining the Asia Group, Eleanor interned at the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI), where she monitored supply chain trendiness of various Indo-Pacific economies, U.S. tariffs on China, and regional economic integration in Asia. Prior to joining ASPI, Eleanor was a Research Assistant at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, where she conducted research on transnational issues including food security and kleptocracy. She also interned with the Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where she covered issues on the U.S.-Japan alliance, Japanese foreign policy and security, economic statecraft, and climate change.
Eleanor is a non-resident affiliate with EconVue, an online platform that provides independent analysis on global macroeconomic trends and fiscal policy. In Fall 2022, she was selected to join the Kim Koo Fellowship Program at the Korea Society. She also served as a delegate to the 2022 QUADMIN Dialogues in Melbourne, Australia, a symposium that brought together emerging leaders from the Quad countries to discuss key issues facing the grouping and the Indo-Pacific. Eleanor is a member of the Pacific Forum’s Young Leaders Program, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), and the Council on Foreign Relations’ Young Professionals Program.
Eleanor holds a Master of Arts in Asian Studies from Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Saint Mary's College. She is fluent in Japanese. Eleanor is a college football enthusiast and will always watch Notre Dame football games.
