Jonathan Kay is a Senior Associate at The Asia Group, where he supports clients as they develop and expand their business strategies across South Asia. Jonathan assists clients in navigating India’s complex regulatory and political environment across a variety of sectors including energy, health, information and communications technologies, and manufacturing. In this capacity, he develops market entry and expansion strategies, briefs clients on emerging political developments, and helps craft resonant messaging strategies.

Prior to joining The Asia Group, Jonathan was a James C. Gaither Junior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he conducted research on renewable energy, South Asian strategic stability, and Indian democracy and governance issues. While at Carnegie, he authored “Tangled Wires: Preparing India’s Power Sector for the Clean Energy Transition,” a working paper on the political economy of Indian power sector reforms.

While a Joel Dean Fellow at Swarthmore College, Jonathan researched the politics of international financial institutions with a focus on the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. His findings appeared in the Washington Post, the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Reconnecting Asia project, and World Development, a peer-reviewed academic journal. Previously, Jonathan worked at ECOPA, a development policy consulting firm, conducting econometric analysis of labor and fiscal policy in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Jonathan received a bachelor’s degree in political science with highest honors from Swarthmore College, where he ran the school’s arts and culture magazine and played bass in several jazz ensembles. He is fluent in French and proficient in Hindi.
