Senior Associate

Junko Nagahama is a Senior Associate with The Asia Group's Tokyo office. She draws on her strong professional background in international relations and her deep understanding of Japan's political and economic landscape to help multinational and Japanese organizations develop strategies to navigate the changing domestic and global environment.

Before joining TAG, Junko worked as an economic policy analyst at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo for over a decade, focusing on various economic, trade, and industrial policy issues in areas such as transportation, primary industries, infrastructure and smart cities, energy, climate, and sustainability. As a liaison between the business community and government officials, Junko developed and executed policy initiatives for the U.S. government while promoting U.S.-Japan economic cooperation at the policy level.

Junko received several accolades for her work at the Embassy, including for her initiative and coordination of Indo-Pacific workshops to promote bilateral cooperation in infrastructure development (2020), for her interagency work to advance U.S.-Japan economic collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region (2018), and a Meritorious Honor Award for "Advancement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility principles within the Mission and within Japan" (2022).

Junko has a master's degree in international relations from La Universidad de las Americas – Puebla (Puebla, Mexico) and a B.A. in Political Science from Central Washington University (Ellensburg, WA).
