Senior Associate – Southeast Asia/Government Affairs (Hanoi)

The Asia Group is now accepting applications for a Senior Associate focusing on Government Affairs to join our growing Hanoi office.

The Asia Group’s Hanoi office is seeking an experienced individual to support our thriving Vietnam practice at the Senior Associate level. This role will involve supporting our Hanoi-based team by carrying out in-depth research, developing actionable insights, interfacing with clients, and producing client-ready updates and research memoranda.  

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Vietnamese political system and extensive experience engaging with government stakeholders, as well as a strong grasp of business fundamentals and Vietnam’s complex regulatory environment. They will possess a strong ability to communicate in both English and Vietnamese and will be able to provide clear, concise, and nuanced briefings and written product to TAG clients and leadership. Priority will be given to those applicants with demonstrated experience working with the private sector and/or international partners. 

Responsibilities Include:
  • Effectively manage relationship with government stakeholders and represent TAG and its clients in public sector engagements;
  • Develop actionable strategies to advance TAG clients’ interests;
  • Closely monitor relevant business intelligence from public sector stakeholders and advise on necessary actions;
  • Assist efforts to engage with the Vietnamese government abroad, especially in Washington D.C., through leveraging knowledge of Vietnam’s foreign diplomatic missions and public-private partnerships;
  • Work with relevant business and corporate stakeholders – including relevant coalitions, chambers of commerce, and trade associations – to advance TAG’s business development initiatives;
  • Support the development and expansion of TAG’s Hanoi office and broader Vietnam practice;
  • Monitor local print and online media for important developments related to client equities and opportunities for business development; and
  • Support TAG’s Government Affairs Director with public sector engagement initiatives.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Strong public affairs ethics, conducting all activities with honesty and integrity;
  • Experience working with the Government of Vietnam, relevant public sector agencies, or MNCs in government affairs roles is highly valued;
  • At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, political science, international relations, or a relevant discipline, but ideally a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline;
  • At least five-to-seven-years’ work experience, ideally demonstrating increasing capacity and responsibility;
  • A robust existing network with Vietnamese officials and business leaders, as well as exemplary networking skills with both public and private sector stakeholders;
  • Strong English-language communication skills, both verbal and writing;
  • Can-do attitude and willingness to provide strong support on both critical client matters and simple administrative tasks;
  • Flexibility with respect to working and communication hours, particularly when coordinating with team members in Washington; and
  • Being able to partner effectively and form relationships with peers and management, and existing and expanding networks in business and government.
