Yoochul Kim is a Senior Vice President and Country Director at The Asia Group (TAG). Yoochul is based in Seoul, South Korea, supporting TAG clients in South Korea in alignment with TAG’s growth initiatives in the region.
Prior to joining The Asia Group, Yoochul worked closely with regional, global investors and multinational companies, advising them on how to navigate business and political risk in the South Korean market through his role as the head of the Korea team for Control Risks – a global risk consultancy. In this role, he delivered political and operational risk analysis for corporations. His sectoral coverage included shipbuilding, private equity, retail, fintech technology and renewable energy.
Yoochul also spent more than a decade as a journalist with The Korea Times, South Korea’s most influential English-language daily, and Yonhap Infomax, a leading financial news content provider based in Seoul. While at The Korea Times, he was a chief correspondent covering South Korea’s presidential office, and led teams covering industrial, defense, financial, foreign, and North Korea policies. Yoochul’s work on politics and technology has appeared in various international media outlets.
Yoochul earned his MA in media strategy from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and graduated from Hanyang University in South Korea with a BA in Media Studies. Yoochul also completed an executive certificate program in digital business strategy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management. He is a native Korean speaker and is fluent in English.
