Prashant Jha is Vice President, Analysis and Insights in the technology practice at The Asia Group. In this role, he helps weave together original policy analysis, the expertise of in-house specialists, and a set of cutting-edge AI tools to produce relevant, timely, and focused updates for clients on a wide range of geographies and sectors relevant to business. He also works on the thought leadership dimension of TAG AI, helping craft both the editorial content on the platform and the communication about the platform.

Prashant comes to TAG after 20 years of journalism, where his work encompassed in-depth coverage of politics and strategic policies of the US, India and Nepal. He has been an editor, a reporter, a commentator and an author.

For over a decade, Prashant was with the Hindustan Times (HT), New Delhi’s biggest newspaper, where he served in a variety of roles. As HT’s Washington DC-based senior editor, Prashant was an accredited reporter with the White House, State Department and Capitol Hill, and covered America’s domestic politics, including the 2024 presidential election, and foreign policy. As the paper’s editorial page editor in New Delhi, he shaped the paper’s editorial view and comment page. As HT’s national political editor/bureau chief, he oversaw a team of reporters covering the Indian government, Parliament and politics. As the founding editor of HT Premium, Prashant helped set up the paper’s subscription-based digital editorial platform. As associate editor, he extensively reported on Indian elections from the ground.

Prashant earlier worked at The Hindu, another major Indian national newspaper, in Kathmandu and Delhi. He has also been a leading political columnist with The Kathmandu Post and Nepali Times, an editor at Himal Southasian magazine, and a Nepal analyst with the International Crisis Group.

Prashant is the author of two critically acclaimed books – How the BJP Wins: Inside India’s Greatest Election Machine and Battles of the New Republic: A Contemporary History of Nepal. He has been a visiting fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, a Poynter fellow at Yale University, and has delivered lectures at several universities and think tanks in the US, UK, Europe, Japan, and South Asia.

Prashant was born in Kathmandu. He has an M.A. in international politics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and B.A. in political science from Hindu College, Delhi University. He speaks English, Hindi, Nepali and Maithili. Prashant lives in Washington D.C. with his wife and daughter.
