Principal

Jennifer Lee is a Principal at The Asia Group, focusing primarily on the Korean Peninsula, Singapore, and the broader Northeast Asia region. A trained economist, Jennifer analyzes commercial and sectoral developments and helps clients navigate the increasingly complex political, policy, and business environment in these economies. Jennifer is also heavily involved in advancing the company’s business development efforts.

Prior to joining The Asia Group, she worked as the sole Korea analyst for Eurasia Group, a political risk consulting firm in Washington, D.C. In this capacity, she advised corporate, financial, and public sector clients on the changing political and economic landscape in North and South Korea. Her sectoral coverage included the tech, energy, manufacturing, insurance, retail and consumer, defense, and telecommunications industries.

Jennifer also served as an economic research analyst at Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) in D.C., where she conducted quantitative and qualitative analyses of the North Korean economy, including the effects of smart sanctions and Chinese trade and investment in North Korea. She also draws from her experience working at KB Kookmin Bank and Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI) in Seoul, South Korea.

Jennifer earned her MA in International Affairs from the University of California San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy, with highest honors. She graduated top of her graduating class at Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, with a BA in Economics. She also studied Economics at New York University and completed her Economics graduate school coursework at Ewha Women’s University, with a focus on Public Finance.

Jennifer was born in New York but mostly grew up in Asian countries, including Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan, and most recently lived in Brazil. She is a native speaker of Korean and English, with some fluency in Japanese. Jennifer lives in Bethesda, Maryland with her family.
