Associate/Senior Associate – Greater China (Hong Kong)

The Asia Group, LLC is now accepting applications for an Associate or Senior Associate to join our Hong Kong Office. The employee will primarily support the firm’s Greater China regional portfolio, servicing global corporate clients.

The Asia Group (“TAG”) is a strategic and business advisory firm supporting leading global firms in markets across the Indo-Pacific region. The Asia Group’s clients are active in a broad range of industries, including high-tech manufacturing, digital services, life sciences, entertainment, energy, financial services, hospitality, and transportation.

The Associate or Senior Associate will be a key team member of TAG’s newly established Hong Kong Office. The employee will also contribute to TAG teams located across the Indo-Pacific region and in our headquarters in Washington D.C. on a broad scope of work including client servicing, relationship development, and policy research. A strong candidate will be highly motivated and have a strong grasp of business fundamentals, industries, and geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific region, with focus on U.S.-China relations and the situation in Hong Kong. The position is based in Hong Kong, reporting to the Managing Director (leader of the Hong Kong Office).

Responsibilities Include:
  • Monitor local print and online media for important developments related to client equities and opportunities for business development; and undertake in-depth Hong Kong and/or Greater China-focused economic, policy, and regulatory research to support TAG’s publications and other client inquiries on an as-needed basis;
  • With the guidance of the Managing Director, offer timely and effective support in planning and implementation of client engagements and activities on the ground. The employee will be expected to be able to execute assignments and projects independently;
  • Help the Managing Director to maintain appropriate government relations in areas such as financial services, technology and innovation, and consumer related sectors. The employee will also help to manage relations with local industry associations, chambers and other key stakeholders. The employee may work in tandem with TAG’s Shanghai Office on some client tasks, and some regional travel may be required.
  • As a key member of the Hong Kong Office, provide day-to-day support to the Managing Director on business development as well as local office operational and logistics work for TAG’s long-term development in Hong Kong.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (e.g., a Master’s degree) in relevant areas, including international relations, political science, public policy, or equivalent practical experience related to Hong Kong and the Greater China region;
  • Relevant work experience, preferably in a public policy, government relations, or government experience, although experience in the private sector, especially multinational corporations, is also a plus;
  • Deep understanding of Hong Kong’s political system, policymaking process, and external relations;
  • Outstanding research, analytical, and writing skills;
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese (verbal, reading, and research);
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with multiple tight deadlines; willingness to work non-standard hours, including occasional late evenings, early mornings, and weekends, to accommodate international offices and clients.
  • Demonstrated team player skills with a positive and professional attitude;
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively contribute to the team and to TAG’s growth.
