Director of Analytics – Research (DC)

The Asia Group, LLC is now accepting applications for a Director of Analytics to join our Washington, DC office. The employee will primarily support the firm’s research initiatives across various teams.

The Asia Group is a strategic and business advisory firm that supports Fortune 500 corporations with market entry and expansion strategies, stakeholder engagement strategies, and complex conflict resolution initiatives in the Indo-Pacific region. The Asia Group’s clients cover a broad range of industries, including technology, manufacturing, energy, financial services, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, transportation, and defense.

The Asia Group is looking for highly motivated candidates with demonstrated experience in strategic Indo-Pacific issues to oversee firmwide research initiatives and activities.

Responsibilities Include:
    • Lead TAG Research and Analytics staff in producing insightful, timely, and compelling client materials covering cross-cutting or regional developments, especially on China and India;
    • Ensure quality in, and oversee the production of, the Daily Asia and other products such as Instant Insights that are distributed to all TAG clients;
    • Promote firmwide standards for quality research and analysis and presentation, including via training and mentoring;
    • Help develop organizational best practices to enable TAG to best utilize emerging technologies for firmwide research and product development;
    • Oversee and ensure implementation of other practices’ research plans with an eye toward enhancing the sophistication and timeliness of firm-wide analysis;
    • Spearhead webinars for clients and help produce The Tea Leaves Podcast;
    • Oversee TAG’s public-facing thought leadership products and activities, including by overseeing TAG’s social media content;
    • Supervise the research staff while helping promote each member’s professional development;
    • Track market and industry developments affecting TAG client equities;
    • Contribute to TAG business development (BD) objectives, including identifying potential BD targets, conducting outreach, and developing proposals; and
    • Develop and sustain a diverse network of relationships in Washington, D.C. and the Indo-Pacific to ensure expertise and analytic capabilities remain relevant and textured.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic Indo-Pacific issues, including business and economic trends (e.g. a relevant M.A. degree or equivalent practical experience);
  • Outstanding research, writing, and editing skills;
  • Self-starter and ability to excel in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong attention to detail and deadlines;
  • Collaborative, can-do attitude and willingness to provide strong support across TAG practices on critical client, corporate, and analytic matters across TAG teams;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills demonstrated by the ability to present and write in a crisp, polished, and effective manner to senior officials and business leaders;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including fluency in Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Team player with eagerness for professional development; and
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Desired Focus and Expertise:
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following markets — China, India, Japan, or Southeast Asia – preferably with 10-15 years of relevant work experience;
  • Experience with engaging media and other public platforms;
  • On-the-ground experience in one of the above priority countries, including a network of pertinent relationships;
  • Proficiency in a relevant foreign language in one of the above priority countries; and
  • Existing and expanding networks in business and government.
