Live on the BBC’s Business Matters, The Asia Group’s Han Lin discussed Brazil’s “Sovereign” plan to shield its economy from U.S. tariffs, noting that the putative U.S. trade measures “give China an opportunity to deepen ties with Brazil and to project itself as a responsible global stakeholder for others to follow.”
Han Lin, China Country Director at The Asia Group, noted: “Whereas Hong Kong once served as a bridge into China, it now functions as China’s bridge to global markets. From Beijing’s perspective, it is only natural that Hong Kong serve as a capital-raising hub in support of China’s global ambitions.”
In reaction to the dismissal of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics economist, The Asia Group’s Han Lin compared how in China, “one consequence of (less reliable economic data) is that investors and economists rely much more on their own and independent sources” which might include satellite imagery or other proxies of economic activity.
Regarding China’s Gen Z parents and how they will spend for their babies, “Think strollers and formula today, but pre-K, private tutoring and family travel tomorrow — all the way to digital learning tools [such as coding apps] and smart parenting apps,” said Han Shen Lin, TAG China Country Director based in Shanghai.
