Rexon Y. Ryu Appointed to Defense Policy Board

Washington, DC | May 23, 2023 – The Asia Group (“TAG”) welcomes the announcement today by the Department of Defense that Secretary Austin has appointed TAG President Rexon Y. Ryu to the Defense Policy Board. Chaired by Dr. Janine Davidson, the policy board provides the secretary, deputy secretary, and undersecretary for policy with independent, informed advice and opinions concerning matters of defense policy. Rexon was sworn in on April 26, 2023.

“I am deeply honored to join the Defense Policy Board in this critical moment as the United States faces a range of challenges across the globe. I look forward to joining an esteemed group of national security experts and former colleagues, and am grateful to Secretary Austin for the opportunity to serve,” said Rexon.

“Rexon will bring unique and substantive perspectives that draw from his public service across the U.S. government national security enterprise, as well as his experience in the private sector advancing opportunities for critical U.S. industries,” said TAG Co-Founder and CEO Nirav Patel.

Over 20 years of public service, Rexon served three presidents at the highest levels, including as Chief of Staff to Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel. Rexon also served on the White House National Security Council staff, as Deputy to the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, as foreign policy advisor to then-Senator Hagel, and in several policy positions at the State Department and various U.S. embassies.
