Associate Vice President

Andrew Crain is Associate Vice President for Australia at The Asia Group. Through nearly a decade of work across foreign relations, national security policy, and Congressional affairs; Andrew provides a broad analytical perspective that assists clients in identifying and navigating complex, interconnected challenges.

Prior to joining TAG, Andrew served as the Senior Congressional Liaison Officer for the Department of Home Affairs at the Embassy of Australia. He conducted analysis and Congressional engagement on a variety of policy areas across Home Affairs’ wide remit including critical infrastructure protection, disinformation/foreign interference, emerging technologies, and counterterrorism. The role also included a significant Indo-Pacific focus given Australia’s prominent status in the region. During his tenure, Andrew provided senior members of the diplomatic corps and Australian Government officials with strategic analysis and briefings on a range of national and international security issues, legislative and oversight efforts in Congress, and developing US political trends.

Previously, Andrew was a member of the Congressional Affairs team at the German Marshall Fund (GMF), a leading think tank focused on US-European relations, where he coordinated engagements between GMF’s deep roster of experts and Congress. He was instrumental in establishing and managing multiple iterations of the Transatlantic Technology Congressional Delegations which brought US and European policymakers together with the private sector and non-government organizations for in-depth discussions on the challenges and opportunities of rapidly evolving technologies.

Before GMF, Andrew worked as a Staff Assistant for Senator James Lankford. In this role, he assisted the Foreign Policy Legislative Assistant and gained first-hand experience with Senate procedures and practices.

Andrew holds a BA and MA in International Security Studies with an emphasis on Russian Politics from the University of Oklahoma.
