Catherine Chiu is a Senior Associate for Taiwan at The Asia Group. Based in Taipei, Catherine uses her in-depth knowledge and expertise to help both overseas and Taiwan-located clients make informed decisions about the Taiwan business environment, and Taiwan’s external economic relations, including by engaging with Taiwan leaders in understanding and leveraging opportunities in Taiwan’s dynamic and technology-intensive market landscape.
Catherine brings extensive experience in Taiwan politics and policymaking to The Asia Group. Prior to joining the firm, Catherine worked in the Legislative Yuan, Taiwan’s parliament, most recently as the Confidential Secretary for former Speaker of the Legislative Yuan You Si-kun. In that role, Catherine managed the Speaker’s external engagements and provided political advice on international affairs, technology, renewable energy, media policy, defense and security, and trade agreements. Catherine also served as the Speaker’s spokesperson during official international visits.
Earlier in her career, Catherine worked at Taiwan’s National Security Council (NSC) where she contributed to national security strategic planning and policy recommendations on critical issues for Taiwan and the world. Catherine was invited by the U.S. State Department in 2019 to join its signature International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), whose alumni include many past and current world leaders.
Catherine holds a Master of Arts degree in “Media and Communication” from Goldsmiths College at the University of London, where she focused her research on the impact of geopolitics on international discourse. A native of Yilan, a scenic region well known for Taiwan’s best whisky, Catherine speaks Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese, Hokkien and English.
