Ella Lipin is a senior advisor to The Asia Group, where she advises clients on geopolitical risk, drawing on over 15 years of experience in foreign policy and national security strategy.
Ella most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, where she led efforts to address strategic competition in the U.N. and multilateral system. In this role, she represented the Department with key allies and partners around the world and successfully ran global campaigns to elect qualified individuals to lead key international organizations. Prior to that role, Ella served at the National Security Council as senior advisor to the Principal Deputy National Security Advisor, helping develop policies for a range of national security issues, including the U.S.-China relationship, advancing U.S. interest in the Indo-Pacific, the intersection of technology and national security, economic statecraft, energy security, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Previously, Ella served as national security advisor to Senator Cortez Masto. At the Pentagon, she served as speechwriter to the Secretary of Defense and later as country director for Egypt policy. She is a recipient of the Department of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service and the Department of State Superior Honor award.
Ella holds a Master of Public Affairs from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and political science from Duke University.
