Erin Gallagher is a Washington-based Associate in The Asia Group’s Japan practice, where she supports clients with policy insights and guidance on key markets in Japan, as well as Japan’s foreign policy and the U.S.-Japan alliance.
Prior to joining The Asia Group, Erin worked as the Japan Studies Research Associate at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), where she focused on Japanese domestic politics and foreign policy. She contributed to research projects on issues ranging from demographic shifts and their impact on Japanese society to constitutional change in Japan. Before CFR, Erin was a summer associate at Temple University Japan’s Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies, where researched on Russian-Japanese relations. She was also an intern at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, where she supported the Asia Program and the Program on National Security.
Erin holds a Master of Arts in Global Studies from Tokyo’s Sophia University, where her research focused on the relationship between transnational advocacy and Japanese domestic policy. She also holds a Master of Arts in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Pennsylvania, where she concentrated in Japanese studies. Erin received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa. She double majored in International Relations and East Asian Languages and Civilizations.
Erin is professionally proficient in Japanese. In her spare time, she enjoys going on hikes and taking nature photos.
