Giap Nguyen is an Associate at The Asia Group specializing in Vietnam’s current affairs and economy. He helps clients stay informed on the rapidly changing policy landscape by conducting research, analyzing industrial and trade issues, and focusing on emerging technologies, media and telecommunications, and multilateral and bilateral relations.
Giap brings nearly a decade of experience as a current and international affairs journalist for leading Vietnamese media outlets such as VnExpress online newspaper and Vietnam Television Corporation. He also worked as a communication consultant for UNICEF Vietnam for two years, collaborating with WHO, the Ministry of Health, other NGOs, and private stakeholders to spearhead multiple social development campaigns. Additionally, he has written on Vietnam’s social and business issues for the Associated Press, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, Southeast Asia Globe and Vox.
In his spare time, Giap regularly participates in international youth leadership exchange programs to discuss innovative solutions to regional and national issues. He is a member of The Southeast Asian Young Leaders’ Programme of IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2017, ASEAN Youth Fellowship cohort 2022, and Singapore-Vietnam Young Leaders Network.
Giap holds a master’s degree in International Journalism from City University, University of London, with a UK government-funded Chevening scholarship. He also has a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University. Giap is fluent in Vietnamese and English.
