Maxfield Brown is a Vice President at The Asia Group, where he supports clients in Australia and Southeast Asia. Drawing on nearly a decade of experience across emerging Asia, Maxfield works closely with companies in energy, ICT, and manufacturing to help them navigate complex regulatory and political environments and develop market entry strategies.
Prior to joining The Asia Group, Maxfield was based in Vietnam for five years holding various roles with Dezan Shira & Associates’ – a leading foreign direct investment consultancy focused on Asia. Most recently, Maxfield managed the firm’s Business Intelligence department, where he led consulting teams in Southeast Asia, China, and India. Maxfield traveled extensively in Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand as part of his role, speaking at conferences, meeting partners, and accompanying clients on country visits. In this role, Maxfield consulted with executives and financial officers to prioritize markets for investment, analyzing local cost profiles, operating conditions, and demand drivers across the Indo-Pacific. He also advised heads of supply chain and logistics on tariff exposure and production restructuring options during the U.S.-China trade war.
Previously, Maxfield managed the development of Dezan Shira’s pan-ASEAN and Vietnam focused web platforms and publications, which provide detailed analysis on regulatory compliance, tax and accounting policy, and prevailing industry conditions throughout Southeast Asia.
Prior to working at Dezan Shira, Maxfield held roles in the extractives and political risk industry and has extensive experience throughout Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
Maxfield earned a Master of Arts in International Political Economy from the University of Kent’s School of International Studies in Brussels. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Ohio Wesleyan University.
