Michael Akopian is an Associate with the Defense & National Security Practice at The Asia Group. Michael provides geopolitical analysis to support client efforts to generate or expand their presence in the Indo-Pacific region.
Previously, Michael was a Research Assistant on the Defense Team at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). His research covered Taiwan’s and China’s defense capabilities, U.S. extended deterrence commitments, and U.S. force posture in the Indo-Pacific. Michael also supported the CNAS Gaming Lab, helping develop and execute tabletop exercises for Congressional, Department of Defense, and private sector audiences.
Michael holds an MA in International Affairs with a concentration in Strategic Studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a BA in Economics and Finance from Muhlenberg College.
