Nick Ackert is an Associate Vice President at TAG AI, The Asia Group’s artificial intelligence-enabled platform, where he spearheads business-focused geopolitical analysis powered by the firm’s next generation technology. In addition to driving timely content for TAG’s diverse client base, Nick leverages his interdisciplinary and quantitative training to advance technology-driven analytic approaches across the firm. He also collaborates closely with senior leadership to expand TAG’s thought leadership and business development efforts.
Nick is an experienced geopolitical commentator and subject matter expert specializing in Chinese foreign policy and Indo-Pacific security. His portfolio currently focuses on the risks and opportunities for Indo-Pacific businesses that emerge from tariffs and export controls, China’s economy, the risk of armed conflict, and Indo-Pacific AI regulation. As an emerging thought leader, he has written for various outlets including Nikkei Asia and Global Studies Quarterly, and he actively engages with the DC think tank community in China-related policy discussions.
Prior to joining TAG AI, Nick served as Deputy Director of Research, orchestrating the firm’s suite of cutting-edge, multi-market analytic products and advising clients in finance, venture capital, and technology. Before coming to TAG, he was the lead research associate with Harvard Business School’s Business, Government, and the International Economy (BGIE) unit. His earlier experience includes roles with the China Project, U.S. Congress, and the Association for Foreign Relations in Taiwan.
Nick graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa from Harvard University. He holds master’s degrees in international affairs, international history, and political science from Peking University, LSE, and MIT, respectively. Proficient in Mandarin, he has lived and worked in Taipei, Beijing, and London, bringing global perspective and deep regional expertise to his work.
