Rachel Farmer is an Associate Vice President with The Asia Group’s China practice, where she helps clients navigate the complexities of the US-China bilateral relationship and China’s political, business, and economic landscapes.
Prior to joining The Asia Group, Rachel was a Business Advisory Services Senior Manager at the US-China Business Council in Washington, DC, where she monitored and analyzed developments in China’s macroeconomy, financial services sector, and tax system. She supported member company benchmarking and policy recommendation efforts, spearheading USCBC’s advocacy positions on the US Treasury Department’s Outbound Investment Security Program and on US companies’ tax enforcement related challenges in China. She also contributed to various webinars and publications on US and China policy.
Before joining USCBC, Rachel spent over seven years in Beijing, working in consulting, education, and editing. As a Project Consultant at APCO, she provided policy analysis and corporate affairs support to clients in the technology, financial services, and consumer goods sectors, and oversaw the publication of signature reports and newsletters covering political and economic developments impacting companies’ China operations. Previously, Rachel worked for a private education firm, managing expatriate teachers and implementing English curricula in affiliated schools across China.
Rachel holds a master’s degree in Chinese Politics and Foreign Policy from Tsinghua University and a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies and Chinese from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and conversational in Spanish. In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, and hiking.
