Romy Koo is a Korea Analyst at The Asia Group, where she provides in-depth research and nuanced analysis on the political and economic dynamics of the Korean Peninsula. She primarily focuses on evolving policies in semiconductor, defense, and biotechnology sectors.
Prior to joining TAG, Romy was a Korea Chair Intern at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., where she specialized in U.S.-South Korea-Japan trilateral relations, inter-Korean relations, regional security issues, and South Korean domestic politics. Romy also has hands-on experience as a Legislative Intern at the National Assembly of South Korea, where she managed constituent services and supported the National Defense Committee by tracking legislation and corresponding with veterans. Romy engaged with South Korea’s non-profit sector through her internship with the Korean Federation for Environmental Movements in Seoul.
Romy graduated sigma iota rho from Johns Hopkins University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Public Health Studies. She expanded on her public health background through research at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and honed her editorial skills as the News and Features Editor at The Johns Hopkins News-Letter. She is also a member of Pi Beta Phi.
Romy was born in New York and grew up mostly in South Korea. She is fluent in both Korean and English and currently lives in Washington, D.C.
