Shyam Krishnakumar is an Advisor at the Asia Group, where he helps clients navigate India’s complex regulatory environment in emerging technology sectors. Shyam combines a deep understanding of geopolitics and political dynamics, comfort with New Delhi’s regulatory ecosystem and deep technology background to provide risk advisory and foresight across a range of rapidly evolving technology sectors, including e-commerce, telecom and 5G, crypto/Web3, fintech and India’s push for electronics manufacturing.
Shyam is the co-founder of The Pranava Institute, which works at the intersection of emerging technology, public policy, and society in the Indian context. At Pranava, Shyam’s work engages with key questions around India’s digital transformation, including regulatory frameworks for emerging technologies, India’s cybersecurity and technology ethics. He also serves as a Visiting Faculty at the Daksha Fellowship, India’s first law and technology fellowship program, where he teaches Conceptual Foundations in Technology and Public Policy.
Before the Pranava Institute, Shyam served as a consultant with Vision India Foundation, where he worked closely with key stakeholders in India’s policy ecosystem to design and deliver executive/capacity building programs on technology policy and public leadership for young professionals from both the private and public sectors. Before this, Shyam co-founded EduSeva Technologies, an ed-tech social venture to provide world-class education at India’s grassroots.
Shyam is a Computer Science graduate and holds a Masters in Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations. He splits his time between New Delhi and Bangalore. Shyam was born and raised in India and has native comfort with Hindi and Tamil. You would find him on Sundays in bookstores or exploring the streets of ancient Indian cities.
