Spencer is an Associate at The Asia Group where he supports the firm’s Australia practice by servicing clients with in-depth research and analysis on commercial and political dynamics within Australia and the broader Indo-Pacific.
Prior to joining The Asia Group, Spencer interned at the State Department’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, where he focused on the U.S.-China bilateral relationship, including national security, economic development, and diplomacy dynamics. Previously, Spencer worked at The Stimson Center’s Defense Strategy and Planning practice, where he researched Chinese military tactics and co-published a piece on U.S.-Taiwan policy in The National Interest. Spencer also brings experience tracking diplomatic Chinese military activities at the National Defense University and researching the Belt and Road Initiative at RWR Advisory Group.
Spencer graduated from American University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and a concentration in U.S. Foreign Policy & National Security and East Asia. He possesses an intermediate level knowledge of Mandarin. In his free time, Spencer enjoys watching baseball and is an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan.
