Sung Young Jang is an Associate at The Asia Group, where he analyzes complex geopolitical and geoeconomic dynamics and provides actionable insights to support clients navigating South Korea’s evolving policy and market landscape. Based in the Seoul office, Sung Young brings deep expertise in Northeast Asia’s political and economic environment, with a focus on regulatory and industrial developments across key sectors.
Prior to joining The Asia Group, Sung Young was a senior consultant at Dawin Strategy Consulting, a regional advisory firm focused on national R&D initiatives. In this role, he supported government and corporate strategies across diverse technological fields including semiconductors, batteries, and artificial intelligence.
Sung Young previously worked at the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies, a policy think tank in Seoul, where he played an instrumental role in advancing dialogue on strategic, security, and economic issues affecting the Korean Peninsula. Earlier in his career, Sung Young was as an intern at the Stimson Center in Washington, D.C., focusing on Korean Peninsula security issues and publishing commentary pieces in The Diplomat on Indo-Pacific current affairs and politics.
Sung Young holds an MBA in Business Analytics from Sungkyunkwan University and a BA in International Studies and English Interpretation & Translation from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Sung Young is fluent in Korean and English. During his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis and follows professional sports, including Korean baseball and Formula 1 racing.
