The Honorable John Tsang is a Senior Advisor at The Asia Group.
Tsang brings to TAG an unmatched depth of experience from his four-decade career in the public sector. As Hong Kong’s longest-serving Financial Secretary from 2007 to 2017, Tsang played a crucial role in shaping the city’s economic landscape and solidified his reputation as a pivotal player in the international business community. After leaving his position as Financial Secretary, Tsang rang for Chief Executive, the top position of the Hong Kong government, in 2017. Despite not winning the election, he gained significant popularity throughout Hong Kong and on social media.
In addition to his role as TAG’s first Hong Kong-based Senior Advisor, Tsang is actively involved in a variety of endeavors. Tsang is the Founder of Esperanza, Vice Chairman of Ion Pacific, Senior Advisor of Bowtie, Board Member of the Greater Bay Area Homeland Investments, Advisor of StashAway, Partner of E15 VC, Advisor of Mercury Technology Solution, and Advisor of Halo Energy. Outside of his professional commitments, Tsang is also a host of weekly music program on HK Commercial Radio and fencing coach of his alma mater La Salle College.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, John Tsang Chun Wah emigrated to the United States during his Form II year at La Salle College. He continued his education at Stuyvesant High School in New York City and studied architecture at MIT. He went on to complete his Master’s degrees at Boston State College and Harvard University before returning to Hong Kong in 1982. Tsang is married with two grown children and three grandchildren.
