Administrative Intern

Uzoma Elekwachi is an Administrative Intern at The Asia Group where she supports day-to-day firm operations and assists with human resources initiatives.

Prior to working at The Asia Group, Uzoma served as the global Ambassador for Running Start, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to training young women for elected office. As Ambassador, Uzoma developed multi-media advocacy campaigns, promoted women’s empowerment, and participated in a variety of speaking engagements on political leadership, including chairing the Reykjavik Global Forum. Uzoma also brings research experience from Capitol Hill, where she worked with former Congresswoman Karen Bass, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth. In these capacities, Uzoma’s research spanned Los Angeles’ housing and health sectors, education, and African ecopolitical affairs.

Uzoma supports international exchange and development through a variety of volunteer initiatives. In 2016, Uzoma founded GOGIRL International. Launched in Nigeria, GOGIRL is an international nonprofit dedicated to helping girls and young women in rural areas on mentorship, entrepreneurship, and feminine hygiene initiatives. Previously, Uzoma volunteered at the University of Virginia’s University Programs Council where she designed and planned cross-cultural educational programs. She also worked at Global Education Destinations as an advisor for students from over 10 countries whose capstone projects focused on international economic, political, and cultural issues.

Uzoma graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies and a minor in Social Entrepreneurship. She is proficient in Korean. In her free time, Uzoma enjoys visiting her local libraries and discovering new music.
