Brett Fetterly

Vice President

Brett Fetterly is a Vice President at The Asia Group, working in the firm’s China practice. A U.S. legislative expert, Brett advises leading multinationals on navigating business opportunities and challenges at the intersection of technology, national security, and commerce.

Prior to joining The Asia Group, Brett served in the United States Senate as the National Security Advisor to Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) from 2017 to 2022. During that time, Brett was the principal advisor on all foreign, defense, and national security policy issues for Sen. Sasse, including his work with the Armed Services, Intelligence, Banking, Finance, and Judiciary committees; the National Endowment for Democracy; and the Cyberspace Solarium Commission.

Before the Senate, Brett served in various policy positions in the U.S. Government and in politics. During the 2017 presidential transition, Brett was a policy advisor in the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy. He previously worked as the interim director of operations of the John Hay Initiative, a senior foreign policy analyst at the Republican National Committee, and the foreign and defense policy director for a 2016 presidential campaign.

Brett received his Master of Arts in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), concentrating in Strategic Studies and International Economics. Before attending SAIS, Brett was in an intensive Mandarin language immersion program in Beijing. He is proficient in Mandarin.

Originally from Colorado, Brett received his Bachelor of Arts from Regis University in Denver where he majored in Politics and played NCAA Division II college basketball.
