The Asia Group Welcomes Ambassador Daniel J. Kritenbrink as Partner

Washington, DC | February 10, 2025 – The Asia Group (TAG) is excited to announce that Ambassador Daniel J. Kritenbrink, a distinguished career diplomat with an unparalleled track record across East Asia, has joined the firm as a partner. Kritenbrink’s addition to TAG underlines the firm’s focus to invest in best-in-class talent to support its industry-leading clients and the firm’s ambitious growth agenda and culture of service excellence.

In his new role as partner at TAG, Kritenbrink will support and play a leadership role in the firm’s consulting services across Northeast Asia and Vietnam. “Dan is a world-class diplomat with an extraordinary record of achievement. He is one the world’s foremost experts on China, Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam,” said Nirav Patel, CEO and Co-founder of TAG. “Dan’s profound understanding of the region, unrivaled work ethic, and strategic insights will be invaluable as we continue to build a world-class platform that enables client success.”

Kritenbrink joins TAG following an esteemed diplomatic career spanning three decades, most recently serving as Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. In this capacity, he played a key role in strengthening U.S. alliances and expanding security and economic cooperation with partners across Southeast Asia. From 2017 to 2021, Kritenbrink served as President Trump’s U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, where he deepened the U.S.-Vietnam partnership, enhanced economic and security cooperation, and promoted reconciliation and people-to-people ties. Earlier in his career, Kritenbrink served as Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council, as Deputy Chief of Mission in Beijing, and completed multiple other overseas tours in Japan, China, and Kuwait. Kritenbrink speaks Chinese and Japanese.

“Dan’s extraordinary expertise and firsthand knowledge of the entire Indo-Pacific will offer clients truly unique and impactful counsel to achieve success and growth in this dynamic region,” said Rexon Ryu, President of The Asia Group. “We’re thrilled to welcome Dan to our leadership team as we continue to expand our presence and impact across the Indo-Pacific.”
