The Asia Group Expands China Practice, Announces David Hathaway as Principal

Washington, DC I  June 7, 2023 – The Asia Group (“TAG”) continues to expand its China Practice with the hiring of David Hathaway as Principal. With 30 years of experience as an advisor to global corporates, nonprofits, and multilateral institutions, David brings complementary depth and dynamism to TAG’s recent in-market hires, including China Country Head Han Lin and Managing Director for Hong Kong and Taiwan George Chen. TAG’s investments in world-class talent reflect the firm’s commitment to helping clients navigate the complex risks and opportunities of working in one of the world’s largest economies.

“David adds unique capacity to our expanding practice in China, with a decades-long track record of building and executing policy-driven corporate strategies across virtually all industries, said TAG CEO and Co-Founder Nirav Patel. “With nearly 15 years of on-the-ground experience in China and across the region, David brings the global-local connectivity and perspective that continue to set TAG apart.”

David joins TAG from the Albright Stonebridge Group, where he was Senior Vice President in the firm’s China practice for the past eight years. Prior to that, David served as an advisor to the Stephen A. Schwarzman Education Foundation, supporting the successful launch of the Schwarzman Scholars Program in Beijing. David started his consulting career at ICF International, where he spent 20 years building ICF’s business across Northeast and Southeast Asia. As Managing Director of ICF’s China Office, David built the firm’s China business from the ground-up, generating multiple lines of new business in China’s clean energy and aviation sectors.

“David’s proven leadership and in-depth expertise will pay immediate dividends when it comes to TAG’s client servicing excellence,” said TAG Executive Vice President for Corporate Strategy and Affairs Enoch Kim. “I’m thrilled to have David onboard and look forward to working with him to identify and capture new growth opportunities for the firm.”

TAG’s China Practice delivers best-in-class advisory services to global multinationals with commercial interests in China and the broader region. The practice group specializes in business model risk assessment and resiliency planning; in-market commercial partnership development; ESG campaigns; and strategic communications and crisis management. Its key differentiator is a multi-disciplinary team of experts, including former investment bankers, technology executives, congressional and executive branch staffers, and management consultants – enabling TAG to provide clients with the necessary depth and breadth of strategic insights to succeed in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
