The Asia Group Expands Hong Kong Office and Welcomes John Tsang as Senior Advisor

HONG KONG / WASHINGTON D.C. | January 15, 2025 — The Asia Group (TAG) is pleased to announce that the Honorable John Tsang, former Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, has joined the firm as a Senior Advisor based in Hong Kong. TAG is also announcing the expansion of its Hong Kong office and team, which is led by George Chen, TAG Managing Director for Hong Kong & Taiwan and Co-Chair of the TAG Digital Practice.

These strategic investments reflect the firm’s sustained and comprehensive growth and continued success in building an industry-leading regional network serving TAG clients.

Tsang brings to TAG an unmatched depth of experience from his illustrious four-decade career in the public sector. As Hong Kong’s longest-serving Financial Secretary from 2007 to 2017, Tsang played a crucial role in shaping the city’s economic landscape and solidified his reputation as a pivotal player in the international business community. Tsang’s unique insights into Hong Kong’s economy and his broader regional expertise will enable TAG clients to make well-informed decisions and navigate business challenges in the fast-growing and increasingly complex Indo-Pacific region.

“Our new office and the appointment of Mr. John Tsang as our first senior advisor in Hong Kong marks an exciting chapter of our expansion in Hong Kong and shows our enduring dedication to top-tier client servicing in the region,” said Amb. Kurt Tong, TAG Managing Partner.

“I am glad to have the opportunity to be part of TAG’s global family,” said Tsang. “I look forward to engaging with TAG clients and partners to exchange views on important policy issues, financial services, education, and emerging technologies to drive business outcomes.”

Further strengthening its local presence, TAG is excited to welcome Senior Associate Melissa Ho and Associate Issac Chan to its Hong Kong office, located alongside Victoria Harbour in the city’s financial district.

Ho and Chan bring strong experience in policy research and analysis that will enhance TAG’s technical capacity to address regulatory challenges and opportunities in various sectors. Ho joins TAG from the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong, where she served as an Economic Specialist. Chan was a Policy Analyst at the Federation of Hong Kong Industries before joining TAG.

“As we continue to attract local talent to join TAG in the region, the unique combination of our in-market expertise and global knowledge will make TAG an unparalleled enterprise solution operating at the intersection of business, geopolitics, and public policy,” said Chen, who joined TAG in 2023 to launch TAG teams in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

TAG also has regional offices in Tokyo, Taipei, Shanghai, Hanoi, Bangkok, New Delhi, and Mumbai. Founded and headquartered in Washington, D.C. in 2013, TAG now has more than 120 professionals globally.
